“A Very Village Christmas Carol”.

T’was weeks before Christmas at Walkhampton Inn
With a warm festive welcome for friends and their kin,
The table groaned under good food and fine ale
As Black Cat performed a Dickensian tale.

There was greed versus love, and some spine-tingling ghosts
How the audience applauded their talented hosts!
Then mischief crept in, past the twinkling lights
When the actors took hold of the reins for two nights…

With directors and landlord aghast at the scene
The divas proceeded to primp and to preen,
To each their own Scrooge with alarming perfection
The original play lost all sense of direction!

But order returned, as if part of the plan
Inner peace was restored to each woman and man,
For Dickensian tales continue to thrall
And a Merry Christmas was had…not by one, but by all!
